Hobby in pursuit of a flock of starlings

Hunting Hobby is unique spectacle of nature. Fly at relatively high altitudes, or more often waits perched on a high tree when looking for prey. The attack began when the falcon noticing that his potential victim has entered into its air space. Then off sharply descending swoop to her and begins to haunt her.

Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus)

It is a very small bittern; measuring 25–36 cm in length, 40–58 cm across the wings and weighing 59–150 g.  It has a longish bill and buff underparts. The male's back and crown are black, and the wings are black with a large white patch on each wing. The female has a browner back and a buff-brown wing patch.

Summer birding in Oranovo gorge

Struma river gorges is one of the best places for birding, if you live in Southwestern Bulgaria. They represent the resting place for many birds during annual migrations, and nesting  place of birds preferring rocky and inaccessible terrain. In August, at the peak of the summer heat interesting observations in Oranovo gorge were rare except for a flock of 11 migrating Hoopoes, several raptors including  that  hunting  Short-toed Eagle.
