Wild geese in Blagoevgrad plain
Posted by Rossen
In mid-February I was told for observed wild geese in the Blagoevgrad plain. The estimated number of birds is 100 and were observed to eat in deep snow. Birds may have flown in search of better weather conditions in late January when temperatures reached Arctic values and in Blagoevgrad dropped to -16°C with snow cover of 26 cm. In the next few days I make several visits to the place where was seen geese, but without observing birds. The only interesting observation was 1 Greater White-fronted Goose passing over Blagoevgrad wetlands. The observation of a single bird is curious because geese usually fly in large flocks.

Mid-winter Waterfowl Census 2012
Posted by Rossen
This year MWWC be held on 14 and 15 January in true winter conditions with heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures. This time I chose to visit some marshes and dams north of Blagoevgrad, but weather conditions largely prevented the real coverage of wintering waterbird species.
