This is a small orange-brown bird with a long tail and an
undulating flight. The male has a grey head and black moustaches. Flocks often
betray their presence in a reedbed by their characteristic call. They are vulnerable
to hard winters, which may kill many birds as their population has declined in recent years.

European ecological network Natura 2000 should protect key sites for conservation of rare habitats and habitats of species. One of the Bulgarian Natura 2000 sites for habitat protection of the Corncrake and the White Stork is Boboshevo Meadows IBA, but it appears so only on paper.

Within
her falls gneiss quarry
due to inaction of
"experts" from the Ministry of
Environment and Water and its regional
structures in Blagoevgrad, who believe that it is a little part that
will not affect the overall protection
of the area. The place chosen as a concession includes
a wet riparian meadow,
which at high water
regularly is flooded by Struma river and
rocky slopes located in Kocherinovo gorge.
Paradoxically, this is one of the few
wet meadows in the protected area,
while much of it includes rocky slopes, dry river valleys, farmlands
and pseudo-steppes.
This is a case, which shows how Natura 2000 sites is protected
in Bulgaria.
