Pied Avocets in Blagoevgrad wetlands

Today 30.03.2013 in bad weather with clouds and stormy south wind observed five migratory Pied Avocets (Recurvirostra avosetta) in the shallows of Blagoevgrad wetlands. The observation is extremely valuable due to lack of sufficient information about the migration of Avocets and the key resting areas for birds in the Struma river valley.

The spring arrived on birds wings. In this I was convinced after a brief walk around Blagoevgrad wetlands. The symbol of spring White Storks already arrived while the Magpies in fierce fighting with Common Kestrels defending their nests. The first migratory raptors Short-toed Eagles and Marsh Harriers were also here, flying over wetlands in search of prey.
