Ecopath "The Cross"

Posted by Rossen

One kilometer from the town of Rila, in the direction of the Rila Monastery are located impressive rocks surrounding, as in the gorge on both sides the river and the road to Rila monastery. Formed millions of years ago by the welding of coarse-grained sandstones, now considered as one of the seven "doors" to the Rila Mountain. One of the many paved paths from hundreds of years by local shepherds to lead herds from plain to lush pastures of the Rila Mountain is now built as ecopath enabling the tourists to magnificent views of the cliffs and high parts of Rila.

Wild geese in Blagoevgrad plain

Posted by Rossen

In mid-February I was told for observed wild geese in the Blagoevgrad plain. The estimated number of birds  is 100 and were observed to eat in deep snow. Birds may have flown in search of better weather conditions in late January when temperatures reached Arctic values and in Blagoevgrad dropped to -16°C with snow cover of 26 cm. In the next few days I make several visits to the place where was seen geese, but without observing birds. The only interesting observation was 1 Greater White-fronted Goose passing over  Blagoevgrad wetlands. The observation of a single bird is curious because geese usually fly in large flocks.
